Getting the feel for eels
May 26, 2017
The deep-sea eel community is dominated by the basketwork or cut-throat eels that flourish in frigid waters to more than 5000-metre depths. This Southern Cut-throat Eel shows the distinctive scale pattern common to basketwork eels. It was collected at 2750-metre depths in the Flinders Commonwealth Marine Reserve during the voyage to the abyss. Image: CSIRO Australian National Fish Collection
