Current activities
Floriaan is currently completing his PhD (From rivers to ocean basins – quantifying sex-specific connectivity in sharks) as part of NESP Marine Biodiversity Hub Project A1 - Northern Australian hotspots for the recovery of threatened euryhaline species.
The project aims to investigate reproductive connectivity in well-defined river shark (Glyphis glyphis and Glyphis garricki) populations. By applying novel molecular techniques, we will improve our understanding on male-specific gene flow and female philopatry.
Background
Floriaan is a marine biologist with significant experience in genetics and genomics, including eDNA, metabarcoding and population genetics, as well as ecology (invasive species and remote fieldwork) and bioinformatics.
Academic qualifications
Master in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (EMBC+) at the University of Ghent and the University of Oviedo
Bachelor in Biology at the University of Leuven
